There is an old saying that "knowledge is only a rumor until it is in the muscle." This is nowhere more true than in Brief Therapy. This workshop will explore how physical and somatically oriented techniques, such as spatial sorting, centering and "Somatic Syntax" can be used to help clients discover and internalize lasting solutions to a variety of problem situations.
This session will illustrate the Ericksonian utilization principle, which states that under proper conditions, a problem may easily transform into a solution. The demonstration will show how to develop such conditions via the experience of “generative trance,” such that positive shifts in a person’s somatic, cognitive and field experience lead to positive changes.
Beliefs are a powerful influence on our lives. It is common wisdom that if someone really believes he can do something he will do it, and if he believes something is impossible no amount of effort will convince him that it can be accomplished. This demonstration will show how to elicit and transform limiting beliefs through a simple methodology that engages somatic and non-verbal interactions with the client as well as verbal dialog.
BT12 Clinical Demonstration 09 - Somatic Psychotherapy - Peter Levine, PhD
Somatic Experiencing® - a short-term naturalistic approach to the resolution and healing of trauma. Levine addresses the issues at the heart of trauma and attachment; the upcoming DSM-5 Diagnoses and Disorders and the most effective and promising treatment modalities available to clinicians today.
Severe mental illness predominantly strikes the young, derailing normal social, cognitive and emotional development, predisposing to traumatic experience. Brief therapy interventions are particularly apt because they encourage skill acquisition and decontextualization via remedial experiential learning. This presentation will detail the use of strategic, somatic experiencing-influenced and Ericksonian interventions, among them pattern interruption, symptom prescription, ordeals and other Ericksonian elements treating chronically ill clients with attention to the structure and delivery of such interventions.
This short course will address the rapid treatment of trauma by utilizing Somatic Experiencing, Ericksonian Hypnosis and Mindfulness practices for accessing the unconscious and activating inner resources with SE, mindfulness, and trance.
This workshop will examine the perimeters of cyber trust and cyber sincerity and offer assessment tools such as the Social Media Assessment Form and the Self-Report of Social Media Traumatic Experience Form to move into more informed, attuned and effective positions of intervention.
This is a workshop with live Hypnotic Scaling clinical demonstration and practical exercises. Hypnotic Scaling is a simple Ericksonian & Solution Focused self-hypnotic technique to help your client self-control and resolve any Stress, Anxiety, Depression or other negative emotions.
Traditional models of trauma treatment emphasize a narrative approach centered on the overwhelming events, a very long, slow, painful approach in which clients get worse before they get better. But rather than ‘treat’ the events, neuroscience teaches us how to treat their effects. When trauma symptoms are “decoded” as evidence of how individuals survived, they become comprehensible and treatable. Clients are recruited as active participants in the treatment, are educated to understand trauma-related responses, reassuring them that they are not inadequate or crazy. Best of all, a brief therapy model can be inherently relational while avoiding the 'side effects' of long-term therapeutic relationships.
