The process also allays anxiety and generalizes to effect management.

- Clients in pain yearn for sleep; comfort just out of reach. Focus first on establishing soothing sleep and encouraging nocturnal restorative functions. Treating remaining pain stays in the day’s domain. Hypnosis enlists the mind and body’s natural processes, restoring healthy sleep. Strategic protocols combine physiology of sleep and pain management with the client’s own experience. These are further reinforced by self-hypnosis techniques. Program includes demonstration, application of trance script protocols, and case study discussion. With Deborah Beckman.

The cost of suffering (human and financial) is huge and in part results from the fact that pain is so complex—ranging far beyond the intersection of neural transmission and sensory experience. The puzzle of pain involves a complicated labyrinth of emotions, sensations, culture, individual experience, genetics, spiritual meaning, as well as habitual physiological reactions. This workshop presents both the art and science of working with the resources of the body to reverse the effects of physical, emotional, and trauma related pain.

But hypnosis can as well reactivate the natural mind processes, contributing to reconnect different parts (distinct modes of information processing) into a functional and unified self, particularly after traumatic experiences. Rapport, the special relationship that produces intense interpersonal links and connections, as well as profound disconnections with non-hypnotic reality, can be considered a crucial factor of brief therapeutic approach to dissociative conditions and trauma. How to use rapport as well as other new specific therapeutic interventions to reestablish the natural integrative links in a dissociative mind and relationship will be outlined in this presentation.
