When a patient shows resistance, the therapist should be a model of resiliency to help transform rigidity into flexibility, pessimism into optimism, and being stuck on the problem into enthusiasm for a solution. Resiliency is the ability to get up after a fall, transform difficulties into challenges and become stronger through pain.
Inclusive Therapy is a new model of therapy designed to deal with the ambivalence to change clients often bring to the therapy process. Participants will learn a gentle way to approach conflicted clients to dissolve resistance, binds and dissociation. This method can be especially useful in dealing with borderline or hostile clients.
This workshop will define a social interaction model of resistance and present techniques for managing resistance within the therapeutic interaction. Techniques offered include: methods for disrupting patterns, seeking solutions within the details of client’s problems, the importance of determining emotionally compelling reasons for change, maintain an attitude of naïve puzzlement, the proper labeling of issues, and establishing mutually agreed upon goals. The ideas and methods presented are readily integrated into all theoretical approaches and client problems. A detailed handout will be provided. With Clifton Mitchell and Linda Mitchell.
This workshop will address how the principles and variables of quantum physics can be integrated in the transformation of resistance in individuals and couples. The Erickson Resistance Protocol will be utilized as a metaphor and template to support the expansion of trust and creativity within the professional in the transformation of resistance.
This presentation will introduce participants to the concept of priming, review selected research, and demonstrate its implications in resolving therapeutic roadblocks and creating therapeutic movement. Implications relative to the management of resistance will be a predominant theme.

In this training, the presenter will focus on what it means to work effectively with resistant parents and keep them engaged during the therapeutic process. We’ll explore the role a parent plays in a family’s ability to change, successfully maintain those changes, and what strategies clinicians can use to bypass parental resistance to develop a therapeutic alliance that empowers parents and heals families.
