- Short Description:
- We shall discuss one of the most frequent family processes leading to adolescent psychosis. As a direct consequence of the couple's hidden relational malaise, one of the two parents pseudo-privileges the child over the spouse and instrumentally brings him/her up as the opposite of the spouse in every way. The involuntary cheating about feelings ("imbroglio of affections") enhances the possibility of a psychotic breakdown.

- IC01 Short Course 02 - Treating the Out-of-Control Adolescent: A Grounded Theory Inquiry Into Haley's Work - Scott P. Sells, PhD Treating adolescent with severe behavioral problems challenges even the most skilled practitioner. To address this difficult population a four-year process-outcome research project led to the discovery of a 15-step integrative treatment model. The process began with an intensive case analysis of Jay Haley's work using a grounded theory approach, The concepts that emerged were then tested in the field using outcome measures on 82 families over a two-year period. In this way, the blending of qualitative and quantitative methods in a single study yielded results that offered information that neither could provide alone.

- Ericksonian psychotherapy emphasizes the utilization of our resources. When I treat children with enuresis, I focus on resources and keep in mind that Ericksonian interventions should be brief because children may get tired of being in therapy for too long. Techniques tailored to a child and examples of inductions such as eye fixation utilizing toys will be presented. I will emphasize how to make several brief interventions quickly while utilizing "non human co-therapists" during home assignments, and the combination of conversational trance with tasks.
