Clinicians are seeing an increase in the number of individuals they treat that are diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and they struggle to find effective and efficacious ways to effect change in this unique population of individuals. This Short Course focuses on practical, brief and strategic interventions that can be applied in longer term therapies with individuals diagnosed with Asperger's and other high functioning autism spectrum disorders.
Participants will learn greater depth of knowledge around diagnosis of autism through infancy and childhood, including differential diagnosis. Participants will also be taught about the various treatment modalities. All functioning levels will be discussed. Most importantly, participants will be taught strategic interventions to address specific core issues in clients with autism. Participants will learn safety and tantrum protocols to help with aggressive or severe tantrums. With Sheri Reynolds.
This workshop focuses on the practical applications of Milton Erickson's utilization approach and applications of hypnosis in working with children diagnosed with Asperger's and other high functioning autism spectrum disorders. There is evidence to suggest that more concrete and strategic applications of Erickson's utilization approach may better serve us when we treat ASD and other individuals with language, processing and attention disorders.
Autism, a developmental disorder, is a challenge that has been focused on from several treatment perspectives – from nutrition science to neuropharmacology. Classical and Ericksonian hypnosis offer significant advantages for improvement. A program will be presented that has been successfully applied in clinical research and practice. Its main features and case results will be presented.
Hypnotic conversations explore, evoke, engage and reallocate and experiential resources. Having hypnotic conversations with young people who meet criteria for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), presents challenges both in relating and accessing resources. The challenge extends to helping their parents to better parent by seeing them as resourceful and capable.
