Over the past 20 years, Dr. Rossi has innovatively expanded Ericksonian work by demonstrating its connection to molecular biology, chronobiology, chaos theory and mathematics. This course will explore the relationship and relevance of Dr. Rossi's mind-body work to other forms of psychotherapy. We will learn how mind-body work utilizes and integrates many of the core processes used in the work of Winnecott, Klein, Masterson, Kohut, Jung and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Short Description:
Breakthroughs in neuroscience explain how the brain, mind and body function. The work of Siegel, Rossi, Panksepp, Shore Iacoboni, Seligman and others provide a knowledge base that can be synthesized into a deeper understanding of these processes and suggest a new theory of the neuroscience of utilization. As a fundamental element of Ericksonian practice, it can only be helpful. Like pieces of a puzzle, we can connect disparate knowledge into a new and expanding picture.

Communicating and understanding others, beyond the verbal language, are interactional motor experiences: the Mirror Neurons are the biological base of intentional attunement and underpin the ability to perceive the difference between action and mere movement. In this experiential workshop, therapists will learn ways to successfully interweave somatic awareness techniques to facilitate their ability to listen and respond to their embodied emotions. A variety of exercises from acting techniques will be taught that promote body language for communication avoiding cognitive processes to utilize the creative resources and to improve flexibility through self-exploration and self-expression.

Short Description:
Milton Erickson did fascinating work with deep states of hypnosis. Neuroscience has caught up to what he knew; that the mind/brain reorganizes memory and develops creative solutions in deep states of trance. In these deep states, the brain releases a neuropeptide called "anandamide," a Sanskrit word for bliss, which has healing qualities for difficult problems. This demonstration shows a method for accomplishing this healing state.

Most people live in survival based thinking and feeling by repeating the same reactions to similar triggers, and have forgotten what it means to live in harmony and connection with themselves and each other. Chronic depression, anxiety, rumination, and other psychological problems are not natural states. As science explodes new findings of how to live more often in states of resilience and thriving, these tools can be easily learned and taught to clients.

Whether it is a deep state of trance, a phenomenon of awe-ness, a psychedelic induced expansion, and/or a break through or breakdown of perception, therein lays a greater and “deeper” experience of change. From a neuroplastic or biological state there is the activation of the midbrain, such as the amygdale, cingulate gyrus, nucleus accumbens, which then alter the perceptions of the neocortex.
