This two-hour workshop will demonstrate how to organize and approach partner betrayal. In this case, the secret-keeper has kept vital information from the discovery-partner – such as a love affair, sexual acting out, financial decisions, a secret life, and other instances where the secret-keeper withheld, lied, and used gaslighting to cover their tracks. The reveal or discovery of important information that, if previously known, would have changed everything, is arguably the most devastating form of betrayal in romantic relationships. The discovery partner almost always exhibits PTSD symptoms of mood instability, sleep problems, flash backs, intrusive and obsessive thoughts, paranoia, and abandonment depression. A specific therapeutic architecture and therapist stance is vital to a successful therapeutic outcome of secure functioning.
Attendees will learn how to approach this unidirectional betrayal structure through and video example.
Our demonstration subject for session three has two presenting issues - an undercurrent of sadness that seems to be everpresent, and a difficulty communicating about financial situations in her life. Dr. Zeig starts off the session by speaking Spanish, Karina’s native language. This simple technique puts Karina quickly at ease and sets the tone for the session. By inducing a hypnotic state Dr Zeig is able to do a quick age regression, and through utilizing a number of linguistic techniques - recursion, speaking in triplicate, altering tempo and tone of voice - he was able to seed therapeutic goals and create motivation for change.
EMDR therapy is widely recognized as an effective trauma treatment by organizations such as the World Health Organization and the Department of Defense. In addition, 20 randomized trials demonstrate the positive effects of the eye movement component. Unlike other empirically supported approaches, it is unnecessary for the client to describe the trauma memory in detail or do daily homework to achieve positive effects. This presentation will demonstrate the eight phases of EMDR treatment with both adults and children through discussion, exercises and client videotapes.
