In this presentation, Dr. Helen Neville will present the Psychology of Radical Healing framework. The heuristic is designed to describe the ways in which Black, Indigenous, and People of Color engage in individual and collective healing from identity based wounds. She will focus her discussion on the dimension of radical hope. After highlighting research findings, she will describe current interventions that promote specific aspects of radical healing. Specific practice recommendations will be offered.

Following the exposure to traumatic and victimizing experiences, 75 % of individuals will be impacted, but they go onto evidence resilience and in some instances post traumatic growth. In contrast, 25 % will evidence PSTD and persistent adjustment disorders. In this presentation, Dr. Meichenbaum will discuss what distinguishes these two groups and the implications for treatment decision making. He will use a Constructive Narrative Perspective to demonstrate how to bolster client's resilience.

Longitudinal research with newlyweds shows that 67% have a drop in marital satisfaction in the first three years of their baby’s life. Hostility between the partners increases, and the baby’s emotional, cognitive, and neurological development are all adversely affected. The Bringing Baby Home program, which will be described, is effective in preventing both these negative changes and post-partum depression.
