Attunement can be considered the deepest level of rapport, a foundation of empathy. We will learn how to attune to affect, behavior, cognition, attitude, perception, and relationship patterns – even how to attune to the preconscious associations that drive behavior. A precursor to every intervention, attunement will be described from the perspective of hypnosis, psychotherapy, and social psychology. Clinical applications will be demonstrated and discussed. Includes small-group practice exercises.
The importance of therapeutic alliance is described. Therapeutic alliance, transference, and transference acting-out are defined and distinguished from each other and the therapeutic task of helping the patient to convert transference acting-out to therapeutic alliance and transference is outlined. The differences in the form and content of the intrapsychic structure are described to show why different therapeutic techniques are necessary to establish the therapeutic alliance: Confrontation with the borderline and mirroring interpretation of narcissistic vulnerability with the Narcissistic Personality Disorder. A brief case illustrates each.
Communicating and understanding others, beyond the verbal language, are interactional motor experiences: the Mirror Neurons are the biological base of intentional attunement and underpin the ability to perceive the difference between action and mere movement. In this experiential workshop, therapists will learn ways to successfully interweave somatic awareness techniques to facilitate their ability to listen and respond to their embodied emotions. A variety of exercises from acting techniques will be taught that promote body language for communication avoiding cognitive processes to utilize the creative resources and to improve flexibility through self-exploration and self-expression.
In this training you will learn the factors which lead to creating alive and inspired therapy sessions regardless of theoretical orientation. Drawing from such diverse sources as indigenous wisdom traditions and modern psychotherapy approaches, this training will demonstrate how embracing improvisation and utilization can revitalize and energize therapy sessions.
The Greek philosopher Pythagoras was among the first to recognize the healing powers of music. Milton Erickson, the musician of mind, body and soul, was the first to structure communication for greatest effect so that clients could change many aspects of their life, not merely their presenting symptoms. Just as the cadence of voice and patterns of speech form the music of Ericksonian communication, repetition and rhythm create the emergence of a trance state in music, film, and in poetry. The utilization of art and creativity in a hypnotherapy model functions as a catalyst accentuating the nuances of core competencies such as tailoring, utilization, strategic approach, and destabilization.
