Dr. Polster will feature concentration, curiosity, fascination and simplicity of observation as agents of personhood. He will also offer four cornerstones of methodology. These are: the tightening of therapeutic sequences, establishing good quality contact, eliciting relevant stories, and identifying parts of the self. Live therapeutic sessions will illustrate the principles.
This workshop will focus on the complications in psychodynamic treatment with Transference Focused Psychotherapy. It will explore the management of suicidal and parasuicidal behavior, disruptive of the treatment, severe acting out in and outside the sessions, dishonesty, severe affect storms, and primitive forms of aggression. The treatment of trauma, paranoid regression, erotization, and secondary gain will complement this workshop.
Adler's ideas are at the base of brief integrative couples therapy. This program will discuss the concepts of Adler and show how they are applied with video segments taken from actual interviews. The four steps of ABCT, engagement, assessment, insight and reorientation, will be discussed.
This workshop will focus on providing treatment strategies clinicians and other human services providers can use in their work with youth who are troubled by circumstances that complicate the negotiation of the "normal developmental struggles" of adolescence. A framework for understanding adolescents who are prone toward angry, aggressive and explosive behaviors will be presented. Specific strategies for enhancing effective assessment, engagement and treatment with troubled adolescents will be provided.
Presented will be a teaching tape on the values and perils of therapist-oriented (undifferentiated) eclecticism. The therapist, whether he likes it or not, is a model for the family. An unsure therapist is a poor model when a well defined family is a goal.
An exposition of the methods of obtaining from neurotic patients the information necessary for selection of techniques, description of the most common techniques, demonstration of relaxation training and assertive training.
There is no map for becoming a fully human being, but there is a soul's compass. Orienting to true north requires interior freedom, curiosity and moment -to-moment awareness. The means to uncovering these intrinsic aspects of self, and the blocks to their recognition, are intrinsic to all the world's wisdom traditions.
There is an old saying that "knowledge is only a rumor until it is in the muscle." This is nowhere more true than in Brief Therapy. This workshop will explore how physical and somatically oriented techniques, such as spatial sorting, centering and "Somatic Syntax" can be used to help clients discover and internalize lasting solutions to a variety of problem situations.
