Ericksonian Methods: The Essence of the Story
Held December 2-6, 1992 in Phoenix, Arizona
The Fifth International Congress on Ericksonian Approaches to Hypnosis and Psychotherapy features preeminent practitioners of Ericksonian therapy and will be clinically oriented. The Congress program is designed to make available a wealth of knowledge and training experience for all attendees - beginning, intermediate and advanced.
The Congress theme, "Ericksonian Methods: The Essence of the Story," gives the faculty the opportunity to address the essentials of Ericksonian principles and practice as applied to the health sciences. Since the first Congress in 1980, Ericksonian approaches have proliferated. Now it is time to take stock of basic tenets and practice standards of modern Ericksonian practice.

- Rossi (1992) demonstrates his approach to mind-body healing while working with a volunteer, Jennifer, who has rheumatoid arthristis in her hands, which have become distorted and painful. Rossi explains that mind-body healing follows a predictable pattern. During the final phase of this approach, Jennifer begins to experience automatic movement in her hands. She exclaims that her hands are moving more freely than they have in the last five years. Rossi attributes the success to "a genuine moment of self-empowerment."
