Obscured by the passage of time Don D. Jackson, MD is as important in the development of Interactional theory and effective brief therapy as his two contemporaries Milton Erickson and Gregory Bateson. Rare video/audio recordings will be used to teach practical and learnable techniques of brief therapy Jackson introduced.

Educational Objectives:

  1. List 4 conceptual frameworks derived from Jackson Communication/Interactional​ theory.
  2. Be able to describe 4 techniques for joining with and using the clients behavior to promote change.

Wendel A. Ray, Ph.D, is Hammond Endowed Professor of Education and Professor of Family System Theory in the Marriage & Therapy Program, at The University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM). The former Director of the Mental Research Institute (MRI) in Palo Alto, California, as well as a former member of the MRI Brief Therapy Center, and the MRI Strategic Family Therapy Project, Dr. Ray continues to serve as an MRI Senior Research Fellow.
