Miriam Polster (2000) demonstrates supervision with Wendy, a clinical social worker who conducts therapy in the home. Polster’s supervision focuses on finding Wendy’s unique gifts and how these can be integrated into therapy. Next, Steve is working with a woman who has a history of bulimia and has threatened suicide. Polster follows this demonstration by explaining her work.

This workshop comprises three elements: A one-hour videotape demonstrating the use of mirroring interpretation of narcissistic vulnerability to establish a therapeutic alliance, discussion of the tape, and supervision of cases presented by the audience.
Supervision and therapy are isomorphic processes. What supervision teaches is the process of creating change in people, and the very teaching of this process is itself an attempt to create change in the supervisee. Like families, therapists tend to confine themselves to selected segments of their possible repertory. Thus a major goal of supervision can be the expansion of the therapist's use of self.
