Monde hatte drei Therapiesitzungen mit Dr. Erickson und war in früheren Sitzungen einer Hypnose ausgesetzt. Monde sieht Dr. Erickson, weil sie sich als Person, Mutter und Frau unsicher fühlt. Der andere Klient, Nick, ist ein 20-jähriger Student, der noch keine Erfahrungen mit Hypnose oder Psychotherapie gesammelt hat. Außerdem ist Nick ein Bekannter von Monde und ihrem Ehemann.
