PRACTICE & CONSULTATION WORKSHOP

This workshop is designed to allow participants to hone skills in clinical hypnosis and to discuss application of hypnotic methods in particular cases. Those who attend should have completed fundamental training (30 hours or more) and are using hypnosis to some extent in a clinical setting. Practice exercises, demonstrations, and case discussions will be derived from suggestions and requests of participants. The overall goal of the offering is to enhance resourcefulness and confidence for attendees in utilization of hypnotic methods and strategies. A minimum of 10 participants is required.

  • Friday and Saturday, April 13-14, 2018
  • 9:00am to 5:00pm daily

  • $349 if registration received on or before March 23
  • $399 after March 23

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Friday, April 13

  1. Discuss the advantages of matching hypnotic induction to techniques employed in the utilization phase.
  2. Given a case, state a realistic goal for a session of hypnosis.
  3. List two ways in which hypnosis can be utilized in treatment of anxiety.
  4. Formulate a treatment plan for a patient with pain.
  5. Name three hypnotic phenomena that can be utilized in hypnotic induction.

Saturday, April 14

  1. Create a therapeutic story that can be employed in a case of depression.
  2. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of age regression in cases of trauma.
  3. Cite three ways in which age progression can be used in clinical hypnosis.
  4. Given a case, identify two hypnotic phenomena involved in the presenting problem.
  5. Discuss ways in which indirection can be used to facilitate a hypnotic session.

Brent B. Geary, Ph.D. is a psychologist in private practice in Phoenix, Arizona. Since 1988, he has also been the Director of Training for the Milton H. Erickson Foundation. Dr. Geary has presented internationally on Ericksonian topics since 1991 and throughout most of the United States. He is coeditor of two books with Jeffrey K. Zeig, Ph,D., The Handbook of Ericksonian Psychotherapy and The Letters of Milton H. Erickson.
