Why do clients choose the easiest option—even when it works against their goals? This practical, hands-on workshop shows you how to recognize effort reduction bias and use it to guide clients toward better decisions and follow-through.
In this course, you’ll learn how people naturally avoid effort, how this bias shows up in therapy and coaching, and how to redesign choices so progress feels easier without sacrificing accountability. You’ll be introduced to three Ericksonian Choice Architecture tools—Choice Overload, Cognitive Reinvestment, and Deterrence Bundling—and practice applying them in real client scenarios.
What you’ll get from attending:
Clear ways to spot effort reduction bias in client language and behavior
Practical techniques to shift clients out of low-effort defaults
Tools you can immediately apply in therapy, coaching, or consulting sessions
Guided practice through case examples and role-play exercises
Strategies for balancing ease, motivation, and responsibility in decision-making
This workshop is designed for professionals who want simple, effective methods to influence change, increase client engagement, and create choice environments that support growth.
