Short Description:
Increasingly more and more couples are working together or working virtually in the same space. It is estimated that in the United States 43% of small businesses are family-run and 53% of managers share day-to-day management with a spouse. Working together tends to eclipse romance and dominate a couples life. As therapists, we tend to look at our couples/clients mainly through the lens of our favorite therapy model. However, couples who work together face unique challenges that are not rooted in attachment styles or family of origin conflicts.

Short Description:
In the old way of thinking, stressed couples were depicted as a failed communication system of interacting pathologies that could be improved by therapists dispensing conflict resolution skills. In the new way of thinking, couples are the source of mutual healing and the fulcrum for social transformation. This lecture will discuss how that shift occurred and its implications, not only for the happiness of couples, but for the relational well-being of society.

Short Description:
Building on the contributions of Milton Erickson, MD, therapists can advance their work through the introduction of evocative techniques gleaned from studying codes of influence in the arts. The artist and the therapist share similar domains: a striving to alter perception; to modify and expand perspectives; and to stir the human heart. Therapists can explore how to use untapped aspects of their medium through teasing out the connections between the palette of the artist and the traditional toolbox of the clinician.

Language is both informative and expressive. It is the expressive component that elicits changes in emotion, sensation, “state,” and physiology; the words only convey part of the message. We will study the effective use of prosody, proximity, gesture, expression and context, and how those channels can be woven into the process of communication to create dramatic moments that empower effective clinical outcomes. Lecture, demonstration, small group practice.

Short Description:
For too long, and in many ways unintentionally, we’ve tried to organize our world from disjointed mental constructs. This fragmented perspective of the world has led to more and more personal imbalance, social violence and increasing environmental degradation. In this workshop, we will examine how to engage heartfull, embodied intelligence to transform disconnected, fear-based and limited thinking and behaviors into nourishing and respectful life choices. You will explore processes that enrich your capacity to coach others into greater states of wholeness and presence through the body, the voice, movement and receptive listening.

Short Description:
Safe Conversations is a social action initiative to take relational science from the clinic to the culture in order to help facilitate a transition from an individualistic to a relational civilization. Since talking is the most dangerous thing people do, and since listening is the most infrequent, and since difference is the source of polarization, this relational intervention helps people talk without criticizing, listen without judgment and connect beyond their differences. Delivered globally, this relational technology could create a safe world in which everyone is equal, diversity is celebrated and inclusiveness is total.
