Short Description:
BT12 Super Course 03 – Harnessing Mindfulness: Tailoring the Practice to the Problem – Ronald Siegel, PsyD Mindfulness-based psychotherapy is the most popular new treatment approach in the last decade—and for good reason. Mindfulness practices hold great promise both for our own personal development and as remarkably powerful tools to augment virtually every form of psychotherapy. Mindfulness is not, however, a one-size-fits-all remedy. In this workshop you’ll learn how mindfulness practices work to alleviate psychological distress, and how to creatively tailor them to meet the needs of diverse people and conditions. We’ll examine how to use mindfulness practices to help resolve disorders such as anxiety, depression, and stress-related medical problems, while enriching and enlivening therapeutic work.

BT12 Short Course 30 – Mindfulness, Trauma, and Trance: Ericksonian Brief Solutions: A Mind/Body Approach – Ronald Alexander, PhD This course will address the rapid treatment of trauma by utilizing both Mindfulness practice and Ericksonian orientation. The course will highlight Milton Erickson’s use of storytelling, metaphor and rapid trance induction as well as the use of mindfulness practice for framing, re-framing and de-framing the immediate reorganization of transforming somatic-affective experience into new healing rhythms in the body. These methods allow the body to open healthier pathways for new somatic recoveries. We will also emphasize the use of naturalistic hypnotic trance, guided mindfulness practice, and healing metaphors for generating new therapeutic skills in mindbody healing therapies.

Short Description:
There are myriad indirect techniques and the addition of only one or two new ones to your toolbox can both motivate clients and alleviate the boredom of professional practice.  The presenters have written extensively about the rich panoply of indirect techniques that can be used employed in both hypnosis and standard talk therapy.  In this workshop, which will be both experiential and didactic, some of the topics include how to employ interspersal, pause, and subtle vocal shift as unconscious communications, metaphorical and short-burst ego-strengthening for clients debilitated by chronic medical and psychological disorders, story construction and story techniques, how to embed mindfulness principles in group anger management therapy, pattern interruption, and how to employ the clinician’s everyday emanation from the unconscious in creating hypnotic material for professional practice.
