Description

Description:

When people feel “stuck,” they often describe it metaphorically—being “blocked,” “in quicksand up to my neck,” “beating my head against a wall,” “in the pit of despair,” etc. Andrew T. Austin (author of The Rainbow Machine) has discovered how metaphors can be used to clarify and resolve the problem.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Explain how to elicit the detailed characteristics of the client’s metaphor for how they are stuck or blocked, etc.
  2. Use this information to examine how the client’s attempts to deal with their problem aren’t working, and elicit alternatives in order to resolve their problem.
