Counseling and psychotherapy are inseparable from the people who provide them. Drawing on six decades of therapeutic research, Dr. Miller will describe eight provider skills that influence client outcomes for better or worse, across a broad range of treatment methods.

  1. Describe the relationship between therapists' years of experience and their clients' outcomes
  2. Name and describe at least four therapeutic skills that improve treatment outcome across schools of psychotherapy
  3. Explain the therapeutic skill of evocation

William Miller, PhD

Dr. Miller is Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of New Mexico.  He has published over 400 professional articles and chapters and 50 books including Loving kindness (2017), Motivational Interviewing (2013), Controlling Your Drinking (2013), Treating Addiction (2011), and Quantum Change (2001).  The Institute for Scientific Information has listed him as one of the world's most cited scientists.
