EP13 Workshop 36 – Group Treatment of Situational Domestic Violence for Lower-Income Couples – John Gottman, PhD and Julie Gottman, PhD
Original Program Date :
Length: 1:38:39

Description:

Current meta-analysis by Julia Babcock shows that same-sex group treatment for domestic violence is ineffective. Couples treatment is illegal in many states. We will present the results (and methods) for treating only situational (not characterological) domestic violence that shows high effectiveness with lasting effects after 18 months. Treatment utilizes Gottman-method curriculum with 21 sessions of couples group work.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Explain the difference between situational and characterological domestic violence.
  2. Describe the use of a questionnaire valid for discriminating between the two forms of domestic violence.
  3. Demonstrate how to effectively treat situational domestic violence.
