Various trance inductions will be demonstrated with volunteers. Each induction will be discussed with indications for its uses. Differences between formal and conversational trances will be demonstrated with rationales for choosing each. Multiple practice opportunities will be given.

Educational Objectives:

  1. To describe three trance inductions.
  2. Given a case, choose an appropriate trance phenomena for the therapeutic work.

Betty Alice Erickson, MS, LPC, LMFT, is a psychotherapist in Dallas (for over 20 years) and the middle daughter of Dr. Milton H. Erickson. She is an international teacher of hypnosis and specifically the conversational approach pioneered by her father. Betty Alice has authored articles, chapters and books on the subject.
